Zipper Rose Tutorial

I’m in love with these zipper roses…lol  They are everywhere, from shoes to shirts and headbands.  I think they would be great for alter projects.  I’m actually working on a canvas pocketbook from prima.  So, here is where I got the idea:

zipper shoes Here is my tutorial on how to make these:

IMG_0862 You will need scissors, zipper (this is 12” I couldn’t find the size I wanted which is 16”  I think is the best), needle, thread and felt.

You will have to cut off the end of the zipper that has the little metal stop.  Once you cut that off you can pull the zipper apart.  You will only need one half of the zipper to make one rose.  Start by cutting a small felt circle to be able to sew your zipper to, you should match the felt to you zipper.  Once you have cut out your circle take 2 or 3 stitches to secure the end to the felt circle.

IMG_0863 Next you will fold over the zipper onto itself making a point and stitch in the center.

IMG_0864 You will continue doing this for a total of 5 points.

IMG_0865 IMG_0866 IMG_0867 This is your 5 points so, now you will secure it in the middle and tie it off in the back:

IMG_0868 Don’t worry that the circle is to big we will trim it later, you should now have a small tail left to curl up for the center.

IMG_0869 From this point on, you will continue to curl towards the center and make stitches as you curl to hold it in place.

IMG_0870 You continue rolling take some stitches to secure it along.

IMG_0871 When you get to the middle take several more stitches to secure it in the middle.

IMG_0872 so, now this is the back which you can trim, nowIMG_0874 IMG_0875

this is the finished rose.  Here are some others I made.

IMG_0878 The metal zippers I think are the best for this rose.  I also, did it with nylon zippers as well.

IMG_0880 IMG_0881These are done with a 22 inch zipper which gives it a bigger center.   This was my first tutorial, I hope you enjoyed it and will give it a try.  Have a great week.  Hugz, Z

Knee Surgery Update~Prima

HI, just wanted to give you an update on my surgery.  It was off to a rocky start, but I seem to be back on track.  :o)   I’m home now and had to get Gabby ready for her study aboard so it was a crazy weekend.  I’m not walking with the walker anymore and I am walking with the cane now.  I get my 33 staples out on Thursday, oh, joy!   Thanks to everyone who sent such great wishes for my speedy recovery!  My first day I was able to get around of course, the first place I went was Scrappers Cove as they got their order in from prima!  You know how I love my prima, so here is what I got:

IMG_0857 IMG_0858 IMG_0861 IMG_0859 Love, love, love all my goodies.  Makes me happy, :o)  Can’t wait to use these.

I still have 4-6 weeks of rehab so, no time for crafting yet.  :o(

Hope to have some great creative things up soon.  Have a great week.  Hugz, Z

Let’s Get Shabby Challenge #14~Knee Surgery :o(

Let’s Get Shabby Challenge is a two part challenge, wings and this quote:

'Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly'

I took Heidi Swapp’s playing cards and created these:

IMG_0842 IMG_0843 If you lift up the flower you can see where I stamped, so, the left side reads “do what U Love” and the right is “Be Creative, play”.  I plan on putting these on a layout as embellishments.

I love the quote and I feel as you all are “Friends who are angels that lift me to my feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly” !

I want to thank you girls for your best wishes for my knee surgery Monday.  For those of you who don’t know I had a total knee replacement 18 years ago.  It is old and loose and has to be redone again.  Hence, my surgery Monday morning with 2 weeks in rehab and then another 4-6 weeks of out patient therapy.   So,  I hope you come back to visit me and enjoy the rest of the summer.  Don’t have to much fun while I’m gone!  ;o)  Hugz, Z
