I’m in love with these zipper roses…lol They are everywhere, from shoes to shirts and headbands. I think they would be great for alter projects. I’m actually working on a canvas pocketbook from prima. So, here is where I got the idea:
Here is my tutorial on how to make these:
You will need scissors, zipper (this is 12” I couldn’t find the size I wanted which is 16” I think is the best), needle, thread and felt.
You will have to cut off the end of the zipper that has the little metal stop. Once you cut that off you can pull the zipper apart. You will only need one half of the zipper to make one rose. Start by cutting a small felt circle to be able to sew your zipper to, you should match the felt to you zipper. Once you have cut out your circle take 2 or 3 stitches to secure the end to the felt circle.
Next you will fold over the zipper onto itself making a point and stitch in the center.
You will continue doing this for a total of 5 points.
This is your 5 points so, now you will secure it in the middle and tie it off in the back:
Don’t worry that the circle is to big we will trim it later, you should now have a small tail left to curl up for the center.
From this point on, you will continue to curl towards the center and make stitches as you curl to hold it in place.
You continue rolling take some stitches to secure it along.
When you get to the middle take several more stitches to secure it in the middle.
so, now this is the back which you can trim, now
this is the finished rose. Here are some others I made.
The metal zippers I think are the best for this rose. I also, did it with nylon zippers as well.
These are done with a 22 inch zipper which gives it a bigger center. This was my first tutorial, I hope you enjoyed it and will give it a try. Have a great week. Hugz, Z
